Picks to Click: Week 11

Scores and predictions for all the AP Top 25 and Pac-12 college football games this weekend.

We are entering the closing stretch of the college football regular season, which really means things are just getting started.

November always brings some of the most memorable games every year, but this season is shaping up to especially exciting. For starters, there is no consensus No. 1 team in the country. In fact, all three major polls have a different team at the top.

The initial College Football Playoff Rankings released earlier this week placed Ohio State in the No. 1 spot, while the Associated Press has LSU setting the pace, and the Amway Coaches Poll has Alabama leading the way. My rankings here at Dry Heat Sports have placed the Buckeyes at the top since the end of September as they have been the most complete team in the country.

What is exciting about the coming weeks is that all of these teams have big games remaining, which should help separate the logjam. It starts this weekend with LSU going into Tuscaloosa to face Alabama. Should the Tigers win, their schedule is favorable the final few weeks of the season. The Crimson Tide still have to face Auburn at the end of the regular season, and those Tigers get a crack at Georgia next week. The Bulldogs are still hoping to sneak into the playoff picture as a one-loss team, and beating the SEC West winner in the conference championship would help those odds.

Meanwhile in the Big Ten, Ohio State has two huge games sitting at the back end of its schedule: versus Penn State and at Michigan. Speaking of the Nittany Lions, they play in this week’s other premier game: at undefeated and 13th-ranked Minnesota. Should Penn State win, the game in Columbus on Nov. 23 becomes as big as any played around the country this season.

The CFB Playoff Rankings were somewhat surprisingly kind to the Pac-12, which is hoping to sneak a one-loss team in the playoff by season’s end. Oregon and Utah, despite neither having a win against another team ranked by the CFP Top 25, were slotted at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively. Both teams are idle this weekend and have manageable schedules in the final three weeks, which is setting the stage for a Pac-12 Championship game that could serve as a virtual play-in game if the dominoes fall properly in other Power 5 conferences in the coming weeks.

Last week, the Picks to Click went 12-3 overall, 9-5 against the spread and 7-7 versus the point totals. The season records improve to 164-43 overall, 97-91-2 against the spread and 102-84-4 against the totals.
