As we roll into Week 4 of Picks to Click, we are getting into some tougher decisions. So far, we are 69-11 overall for the straight up picks. For those that follow these things closely (which I don’t), the Picks to Click are also 32-31-2 against the spread and 35-28-1 against the point total.
The Week 4 slate features three ranked vs. ranked showdowns, including No. 7 Notre Dame at No. 3 Georgia, No. 8 Auburn at No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 11 Michigan at No. 13 Wisconsin.
ESPN College GameDay research guru Chris Fallica (@chrisfallica) tweeted a couple eye-popping stats for a pair of these high-profile national games.
It will be interesting to see whether Jim Harbaugh can break through against Wisconsin, a team I have been impressed with early despite not facing a real test yet. They’ve expanded the role of All-American running back Jonathan Taylor by utilizing him as a pass-catcher, while the Badger defense has yet to allow a point. Michigan’s offense has left plenty to be desired early this season, but perhaps a week to settle down during a bye will get things on track.
In the other matchup, Notre Dame needs deliver a strong performance to remain a contender for the College Football Playoff. Winning straight up in Athens may be asking too much for the Irish, but can they make a game of it. I’m skeptical, which is why I have kept Notre Dame out of the Dry Heat Sports Top 10 to this point of the season. But I’ll be watching closely to see what this Irish team has.
In the Pac-12, six teams are ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time since November of 2015. With Arizona and Oregon State idle this week, that leaves all six games involving Pac-12 teams with at least one ranked opponent.
Four of the ranked squads are going on the road, starting with South Division favorite and 10th-ranked Utah playing at USC on Friday night. On Saturday, two games will have national relevance, starting with No. 23 California traveling into SEC country to face Ole Miss, while No. 22 Washington heads to Provo against BYU.
Only two Saturdays are left in September, so things begin to shake up quickly. Let’s get to the picks for Week 4.
